battery management system BMS
The battery management system BMS is a system that manages the battery. It has the function of protecting the battery. By measuring the battery voltage, it prevents or avoids the occurrence of abnormalities such as battery over-discharge, over-charge, and over-temperature. Generally, the battery protection board system also has a battery pack balancing function, which can better exert the power of the battery pack, improve the use efficiency of the battery pack, and extend the service life of the battery pack.
The battery management system BMS usually applies to rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs.
Number of batteries in common applications of battery management systems
1S~30S (S: series connection)
Mobile phone: 1S
Tablet: 1~2S
Laptop: 2~3S
Electric hand tools: 3~5S
Large tools such as electric lawn mowers: 10S up
Electric passenger cars: In the early days, ternary lithium-ion batteries were generally used (nowadays, lithium iron phosphate or other materials with low impedance and higher safety are used), 80~100S
Electric bus: 100~200S up
Common features of BMS
Voltage measurement
communication
SOC remaining power estimation
SOH battery health estimation
